Summer Learning Journey Activity 16 (Te Huarere/Weather)

 Hey bloggers,

For the kick start activity we had to complete 3 sentences in Maori about the weather and for the step it up we had to record ourselves saying the sentences. I decided to do the kick start and step it up by completing the slides and recording myself asking the question in Maori and answering back in Maori. I forgot to translate it but...

He aha te tohu huarere? means What is the weather forecast?                                                                          He puahuru rangi means A hot day.

Here is my screencastify and the slides:

hope you guys enjoyed my blog post

Summer Learning Journey Activity 14 ( Kiwi jingle bells)!!!!!!!!!

 Hey Bloggers!

Today for the SLJ we had to create our own Kiwi jingle bells song. I found it challenging to come up with my own especially the first line. Once I got started then it became easier.  I tried to use some Maori words in my jingle to make it more of a kiwi song. We live in New Zealand and the festive season is in summer.  I have also added the step it up activity by recording myself singing my jingle.  The difficult part for me is always recording myself as I am not very confident in hearing my own voice back because it sounds weird when I listen back to it. I hope you guys enjoy listening to my jingle. Let me know what you think?

Here is my Jingle slide

Here it goes... me singing my Jingle.

Christmas is celebrating differently in both the Southern and Northern hemisphere.  The huge difference is the weather which determines mostly everything like the activities you would do, the types of Christmas tree you would buy, the types of presents you would receive and the time you would go to sleep.  The Southern hemisphere much like here in New Zealand,  because we are in summer people usually travel to the beach or park to celebrate this day occupying themselves with an outdoor BBQ, outdoor sport games such as cricket, swimming or just relaxing with the family making sand castles etc.  Where in Northern hemisphere its common to stay inside to have dinner at home with the family and  to go outside to play in the snow. In the Southern hemisphere it common to use fake Christmas trees where in Northern hemisphere they mainly use real Christmas trees. They also go to bed early because its winter and its get darker faster where in the Southern hemisphere we are lucky because we have daylight saving so we are able to enjoy longer days. Also the present you would receive in the Southern hemisphere would more likely be something that you could enjoy in summer where in Northern hemisphere you would receive something more indoor like board games or puzzles or some warm clothing etc. Its amazing how the weather has a great impact on how we celebrate special occasions.  I feel lucky that I am in a country that we are able to enjoy our holidays outdoors even though I like the snow which also seems quite fun but that's okay because my family often goes to National park during winter season to enjoy the snow as well.

Thank you for reading my blog.  Hope you enjoying your holidays.

Summer Learning Journey Activity 13 (Pigpen cipher)!!!!!!

Good day bloggers!

I hope you guys are enjoying your holidays. I am sorry I have not been responding to your comments because I am really busy at the moment. I will reply back to them as soon as I can. If you are wondering how I can do the summer learning journey, it is because I have scheduled it as a daily habit.
That was the boring part of my blog post now let's head to the fun part.

Do you know what pigpen cipher was used for?
In the 18 century pigpen cipher was used by Freemasons who was declared to be the inventor to this smart way of keeping things private. So the pigpen cipher is basically used to keep peoples records private.

Something I enjoyed was learning how to write in pigpen cipher. I found it challenging to write the right symbol for the letter especially when I had to write a sentence because they are very similar to each other. I learnt that Freemasons was the inventor of the pigpen cipher.
For the SLJ we had to write what our favourite beach is using the pigpen cipher.
I have a challenge for you guys!
can you break the code to find out what my favourite beach is?
Here it is:

I also did the step it up activity here is the slides and the video I had created:

Summer Learning Journey Activity 12 ( Creating my Hana Kōkō design)!!!!

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

For this task we had to create our own Hana Kōkō design.  I have chosen my design because I am inspired by the Maori culture. The outfit I have used is based on comfort because us kiwi's love comfort. To me NZ represents love so I have used the word Aroha and have made a heart using kuru patterns which is the most common design in Maori tradition. I hope you like my design.

Here it is:

Summer Learning Journey Activity 10 ( Haiku Poem)!!!!

 Hey bloggers,

For the step it up activity I had to create a Haiku poem. I have never written a Haiku poem before but I learnt that a Haiku poem has only 3 lines. The first line has to consist of 5 syllables and the second line need 7 syllables and the third line needs 5 syllables. I found it easy once I knew what topic I was writing it about and finding a picture was easy peasy lemon squeezy. Here is my Haiku poem about yoga.

Kick start task:

Step it up task:

For the step up task we had to write 3 Haiku poems. I have done an audio recording mine because I found it easier to record my voice then to do a video as I am a bit camera shy. I hope you guys like it.

Thank you for looking at my blog post

Summer Learning Journey Activity 9 ( Which one does not belong?)!!!!!

 Talofa Lava Bloggers,

For this activity we were given four pictures and we had to write about which one does not belong. I learnt how to compare in contrast things such as numbers, graphs and shapes. Sometimes you can find that all four picture have differences. It was quite easy in my opinion and I enjoyed doing this task. I have created a challenge for you guys to do about which one doesn't belong? Can you please put your answers in the comment section below. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Here is the slides:

Summer Learning Journey Activity 8 (Rise up)!!!!

 Ahiahi Maria Bloggers,

For this activity I had to create my own chorus. The reasoning behind my chorus is that in life you have to keep trying because anything achievable if you don't give up. I found it challenging to write my chorus especially starting it, but once I started it got easier. I am a very bad singer so it was extremely difficult to record it. I have added my audio recording for you guys to listen too.

Let me know what you guys think of my chorus.

Thanks for coming to my blog

Summer Learning Journey Activity 7 ( Optical Illusion)!!!!!!!!

Good Morning bloggers,

Today is the holidays!!! I decided to do the SLJ. For this activity we had to design our own optical illusion. An optical illusion is a art using geometric shapes and patterns. The art is often black and white to get a cool illusion. I made mine using google drawing. My art is the shape of an octagon. To start of with I had to make one giant octagon then copy and paste as I copied and pasted it I adjusted the size to create a smaller size. I repeated the method. Then I started coloring each octagon and there I had it my optical illusion.
The easy thing about making it was knowing that the colors had to be black and white.
The hard thing about this activity was thinking about what I should create.

But here is my optical illusion:

I hope you like it

Summer Learning Journey Activity 6 ( Kowhaiwhai art)!!!!!!!!

 Hey Bloggers!

Today was My last day at Hay Park School. I am going to intermediate next year! I decided to do the SLJ.  For this activity we had to create our own Kowhaiwhai representing an aspect of summer. This activity is about Tanerore (the son of Tama Nui Te Ra). Tanerore is the personification of shimmering air because he preformed the haka for his mother.   If you don't know what personification is, it is something that is not living but it has been said as a living thing.

My Kowhaiwhai represents Aroha (Love) for the nature. Everything looks very pure during summer. I really enjoyed creating it because drawing is my passion.

Here is my Kowhaiwhai:

I hope you like my Kowhaiwhai!

What do you rate it out of ten?

Summer Learning Journey Activity 5 ( Te Reo- What are you doing today?)!!!!!!!!

Ki Ora Bloggers!

Today I am back with another summer learning journey blog post. This blog post taught us how to ask people what they are doing today in Maori it also taught us how to respond back in Maori.

I learnt some new words in Maori. Something I enjoyed was singing along with the song. I found it challenging to record myself without making mistakes. I had to record it several times before getting it right.

Here is the slides and the video:

I hope you liked my video and my slides!

Summer Learning Journey Activity 4 ( artistic illusion art)!!!!!!

 Hey Bloggers!

This is my last blog post of the day. For this activity we have to create art using items you will find in your garden. Me and my brother ( Hamzah) have created a butterfly each using sticks, leaves and baby's breath ( which is a type of flower) and put it together as one image.

It is amazing how new insects are discovered. Brendan Morris has discovered an insect and then named it after Lady Gaga the singer. So now it is my turn to name my butterfly. I name it the enchanted forest. I named it this because the butterfly looks like a butterfly version of the forest  and it looks enchanted.

Here is my art:

Write down which one is better in the comments

If it is the orange and green one write GO

If you like the red and green one write RG

What would you name the whole image together?

Summer Learning Journey Activity 3 (Gooey Fishy false teeth)!!!!!

 Hello Bloggers!

Today's Summer Learning Journey task was about creating a comic.  A comic is a publication that consist of a sequence panel of still images usually combined  with text, and are usually quite funny. We went through different methods before creating the comic strip. To be honest one of the slides was really hard. I actually enjoyed creating the comic strip. In school this year we have also been creating comic strips about different topics.  I had made mine using still images of myself as it was about self monitoring while reading

Here is my comic strip:

Let me know what one of these would you change?

Thanks for looking at my blog post today.

Bye! (:D

Summer Learning Journey Activity 1 ( Cool Experiment)!!!!!!

 Hey Bloggers,

Today I did an experiment. I took a brief video to show you guys how  the experiment went. Now I will take you through the method and I have also included the materials you need for this awesome experiment.

Materials:

  • Combinations of different food coloring ( I only had 2 colors)
  • Cold tap water
  • Oil
  • spoon
  • 2 cups
Method:
  1.  Fill up one of your glasses with cold tap water just about 5 cm below the top of your cup
  2.  Then get your 2nd cup and fill a quarter of it with oil ( I was using canola oil)
  3. Get different color combinations of food coloring and put a few drops of each color into the cup with oil
  4. Mix the oil and the food coloring for about 30 seconds using your spoon
  5. Pour the oil and food coloring mixture into the glass of water
  6. Watch the magic happen

Something I discovered today was that this experiment actually worked. I was amazed at how the colors were shooting out of the oil into the water creating an artistic illusion. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to do this all by myself with no adult help or supervision. The thing I found tricky about this experiment was that number one I over mixed it because I was not sure how long it was supposed to be mixed for and I used very cold water from the fridge which caused it to not work so I think tap water works best.
Make sure you wear gloves to avoid getting food coloring on your hands. I learnt the hard way so I guess you guys can learn from my mistake.
Have a go and let me know how it went in the comment section below.

Bye for now (._.)!!!!

summer learning journey- day 3 week 1 Activity 1

welcome back to a new blog post,

Jonah Lomu was a professional rugby player. At the age of 19, he became a rugby player and played for the All Blacks. He was one of the youngest All Blacks players. Jonah Lomu from Tonga but spent most of his childhood time in Mangere , South Auckland New Zealand. Before he started to play for the All Blacks he use to play touch and rugby league. He was a very Fast, tall and strong rugby player.

Another example of a famous rugby superstar is Richie McCaw. Because of his strong leadership he became a captain for the all blacks team between 2004 and 2015. Jonah Lomu and Richie McCaw both have been outstanding leaders and captains.

Many people believe that Jonah Lomu and Richie McCaw are both superheros and that they both have superpowers which inspire them.

If I could be a superhero for a day the three powers that I would choose are:

  • I would want to be invisible so that I can hear what people are saying about me, and they will not know I am there.
  • I would choose speed so if I am in a racing competition I would win.
  • I would choose telepathy so that I can read peoples minds and if they are having problems I could help them.
what would you choose?

See you later Alligators
