Hey beautiful bloggers

Today has been a beautiful sunny day.  Finally the weather has become better so we can play outside rather than being stuck inside the house.  For today task we have to write 3 pros ( good things) and 3 cons (bad things) about being a DOC ranger. DOC stands for Department Of Conservation. A DOC ranger lives in either Great Barrier Island or Little Barrier Island and their job is to take care of lizards and other wildlife animals and plants so we can continue to have them around us for along time.

Being a DOC ranger: The pro (good thing):

1) You get to explore the Island and and enjoy fresh air while doing your job.

2) You get to help save animals and plants from becoming extinct and feel proud of yourself for being part of a team who is able to do that.

3) you get to educate other from the experience you gain first hand while being in the wild.

Being a DOC ranger: The con (bad things)

1) There can be creepy crawlies and other creature that you might come face to face with especially when are not expecting them.

2) You have to continue doing your job regardless if its muddy, windy, wet or sunny, so you have to able to adapt to all conditions.

3) If you were not able to save the wildlife animal or plant you will feel guilty especially if it was your fault.

I personally dont want to be a DOC ranger because I dont think I could handle wildlife animals and I love sleeping in my very own comfortable bed without having to worry about creepy crawlies ect.  I have to call out to my little brother every time I see a spider ,so I definitely dont think that becoming a  DOC ranger would suit me.

I hope everyone is having a great holiday.

bye for now

  1. Bula Vinaka Marwah,

I can see that you thought really carefully about what it would take to be a DOC Ranger. You have shared a great piece of writing, it is always nice to see your personal voice included in your posts! He tino pai tō kōrero! (What you've said is good!)

I like the fact that you have expressed why you wouldn't want to be DOC Ranger with your personal truth. I could identify with many of your pros and cons, particularly con #3, it is very hard losing a living being, even worse when you think you could've done something differently..

Personally, I wouldn't want to be a DOC Ranger either, because it just isn't my passion in life. This doesn't mean I don't care for the survival and conservation of animals, because I can always help in lots of different ways like donating. Can you think of a different way you could help?

Another great post Marwah, ka mau te wehi!

    Toe feiloa'i fo'i,

    Cia.
